In 2019 the highlight of our workshops was led by artist, Art Sherwyn. This was the third year Art has shared his talent and skills with our scarecrow creators. Art Sherwyn has shaped a unique career with 40+ years of experience as both an independent artist and an esteemed educator.
Everything he does is centered around a core philosophy that focuses on the transformative power of education and the value of art in each person’s life.
At this community workshop, Art wanted to focus on movement driven by the Cambria winds, like pinwheels. As the discs move their bright colors and decoration create interesting arrays of colors and patterns.
Over the course of three days, the participants designed and created large discs with shaped paddles that would turn in the wind. They then designed an armature for the delightfully colored discs. The outcomes were beautiful and we affectionately named them “whirligigs”!
